1. What is this script all about?
Have you read the 'about' section? Its really good at answering that question :)  [

2. Who would use it?
The system is aimed at individuals and companies who run web and other hosting serives. Its ideal for people who are responsible for their own dedicated and co-lo servers, although would also be great for people who have reseller services and want to provide their customers with constantly updated server status information.  [

3. Does FSS need a database?
No - FSS uses flat files for all its storage needs, so there is no need for any kind of database to use it.  [

4. Are there plans for a version which will use a database?
Well yes, but any such version is a long way off. We do plan on developing a database backed version in the future but this will probably only happen when we begin to develop logging functions.  [

5. What version of PHP will I need to run FSS?
We always recomend using the latest stable version of PHP on your server, regardless of the scripts you are running as there are bug fixes and advancements with each version.  [

6. So will FSS work with older versions of PHP?
Although we don't activly support older versions of PHP (prior to 4), we strive to make the script as compatable as possible, and this includes older versions of PHP. Current versions of FSS should be backwards compatible to quite a large extent, but we can't guarentee this to be the case in future versions of the code.  [

7. Will FSS work on a Windows box?
The basic functions will, yes. Currently, however, the server stats and addon modules will not, they need a unix system.  [

8. Are there plans to make the stats and modules work with Windows?
There aren't any immediate plans, but it is a way forward we are looking into for future development.  [

9. Are you going to make FSS work with templates?
Yes, we are indeed going to make it work with templates. However we don't have a timescale for this, and we don't know which build this will be implemented. In the mean time you can get your hands dirty and edit the layout yourself, or you can contact us to discuss your needs.  [

10. Can I provide the script to my resellers to let them display the information to their clients?
Absolutly, but it depends how you set the system up - you could provide them with the URL to an include version of your script for each box you run, for example.  [

11. How about providing them with an XML stream?
Currently the script does not generate XML, but we do plan to make the script provide such a stream in the future. It is likely that this will be implemented at the same time as the planned template system.  [

12. Can the script be used to trigger other events in my own scripts?
Not just yet. We do have plans for the include version to return variables to tell your scripts what services are up so you can use them to trigger events, but its not, as yet, implemented. We also plan to make it able to do all this silently, so you can use the scripts results as the backend to trigger your own events without actually printing out the usual up and down information. This will most probably be introduced with the introduction of templates.  [

13. Can the statistics that FSS produces be accessed from a portable wireless device which has WAP access?
Currently no. We are very keen to extend the script to cater for such devices though - we beleve that by allowing users to access the information through WAP enabled devices we would be adding very valuable functionality. However, we are currently unable to develop this side of the script because we do not have access to a WAP server. If you could provide access to a PHP enabled WAP server, and would like to work in partnership with us to develop this area of the script, please contact us!  [

14. Will you develop a bespoke version of the script for me?
As a general rule the answer to that is yes, but we can't do it for nothing. Depending on what you want us to do, and what you can offer in return, we can discuss terms. Contact Jonathon to talk about it (details on the contact page).  [
